So in the midst of doing my MTM I got to contact the Mud Creek Clinic -- otherwise known as the pinnacle of the practice of medicine itself. I called and asked if they could copy one of our patient's labs so that I could pick them up the next time I was in the neighborhood. They told me I'd have to get the patient's written permission. W-w-w-what? Ummm, I understand protecting patient info -- but I'm acting as a pharmacy. I decided to take the smartass route (a fan-favorite). So I asked them:
"Do you e-prescribe there?"
"Umm...Yes we do."
"Do you get the patient's written permission before you send each and every prescription?"
***CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP***
"I can't give you the patient's records without the patient's permission"
Shit. My preceptor sent them an interesting letter and called back later to ask to speak with their "privacy officer." Turns out they don't know who that is. The worst part is that they have a pharmacy in-house and could have just hopped, skipped, and jumped over there and asked them. This is your healthcare at work.
Here's your daily awesome:
